چکیده

Closed-loop video rendering implies generating video streams in compressed form given as input video streams that are in compressed form such as JPEG or MPEG bit streams. Closed-loop video rendering has signi cant advantages over open-loop schemes including reduced storage requirements which in turn reduces memorydisk swapping time that constitutes a large portion of the time spent in the desktop editing of massive video material. Processing in the compressed domain also offers faster processing speeds due to the smaller data size present in the compressed domain. This approach also improves image quality since multiple decompression and compression processes are avoided during the editing process. Based on MPEG, a standard video compression scheme, we discuss fundamental techniques, analyze pros and cons, implications and preferences for a compressed domain video rendering system. A software-based system for real-time video rendering is proposed with preliminary results demonstrating the feasibility of our closed-loop MPEG video rendering approach.

A New Unequal Error Protection Technique Based on the Mutual Information of the MPEG-4 Video Frames over Wireless Networks

The performance of video transmission over wireless channels is limited by the channel noise. Thus many error resilience tools have been incorporated into the MPEG-4 video compression method. In addition to these tools, the unequal error protection (UEP) technique has been proposed to protect the different parts in an MPEG-4 video packet with different channel coding rates based on the rate...

Comparative Study of Partial Closed-loop Versus Open-loop Motion Estimation for Coding of HDTV

Motion estimation is a vital function of video coders that utilize motion compensated prediction to exploit the temporal redundancy of video signals. The reference images used in the motion estimation process can be either original images (open-loop architecture) or reconstructed images (closedloop architecture). While the closed-loop architecture is intuitively superior to the open-loop archit...

Design of Rate-based Congestion Control Scheme for MPEG Video Transmission in ATM Networks

In this paper, we investigate MPEG video transmission over Available Bit Rate (ABR) service. It requires small cell delay variation and non-trivial Minimum Cell Rate (MCR) to guarantee quality of service (QoS). Existing ABR congestion control schemes cannot meet the requirements since they are designed for data applications. We propose a closed-loop rate-based congestion control scheme called E...

Real-time Generation of Annotated Video for Surveillance

We present a system that generates annotated video in realtime. Moving objects are first automatically extracted by means of video analysis and then coded using MPEG–4. Moreover, an MPEG–7 description of object features is generated. This description is used for automated event detection as well as for rendering. Rendering enhances important objects in the scene on the receiver side, thus facil...

Closed loop Seams Approximation for Video Compression

Seam carving is a content-aware resizing method. Based on a seam carving approach to obtain semantic video compression, the non salient parts of the video are suppressed and the reduced sequence is encoded with H.264/AVC. To avoid a large overhead to encode the seams, the seams are regrouped together and approximated. In this paper, after the approximation, the seams are resynthesized similarly...
